Nehalem on the River --
where boating, crabbing & fishing reign.
Quaint, historic, and friendly, Nehalem is a small city located on Coast Highway 101 just South of Manzanita. So intimately connected with Manzanita, you'll find Nehalem mailing addresses both North and South of the city of Manzanita. Over 100 years old, the city of Nehalem looks like a vignette of a Wild West pioneer era town with boardwalks lining the streets along the picturesque river. Most of the shops & restaurants on the river side of the street enjoy the view of salmon & steelhead fishing boats, pleasure kayakers, dungeness crabbers, and the three resident bald eagles singing love songs and soaring from the tall treetops.
A public boat dock allows a kayaker to paddle down to Wheeler on the Bay for a wonderful dinner and paddle back home in time for sunset.
Great restaurants, artisans, collectors, galleries, and antique shops line the streets. Just a couple of blocks from the center of the village is the community center which offers and indoor swimming pool.
Nehalem has its own elementary school and a branch of the county community college.
Nehalem on the River, Wheeler on the Bay, and Manzanita on the Ocean collaborate on many community and philanthropic programs due to their close proximity.
Nehalem offers many affordable home opportunities, and with three gated communities, you can expect to find anything from a luxury oceanview home to a convenient easy maintenance townhome to a secluded home on acreage, each securely built behind a gated access.
